Looking for Employees?
Cultivate, Educate, Recruit
This time last year, the residential construction industry was in the final week of being deemed non-essential. What a difference a year makes. With 2020 in the rearview mirror, Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation is looking to the future through the lens of cultivating, educating, and recruiting. Our network continues to grow, as do our opportunities.
Labor shortage continues to be an issue within our industry, and we are working daily to find solutions. I once had a boss who's favorite saying was, "You can either be part of the problem, or the solution." We know what the problem is, we even have a blue print to solve it. But we need YOU to be part of the solution by investing in the industry with either your Time, Talent, or Treasure. Join in our solution as we cultivate for the future, educate for tomorrow, and recruit for today.
October is Careers In Construction Month
Many of you supported our campaign for March is Reading Month in 2020. Your support provided the funds necessary to print 20,000 copies of "Billy the Builder Bear Builds a House." While we had to put that program on pause, we were on track for success. Unfortunately, we were unable to engage with classrooms in 2021 due to Covid. We are hopeful we can again partner with the School Counselors Association of Michigan for October is Careers in Construction month.
We are creating a Billy the Builder Bear Activity book for students in grades four through six. Our goal is to raise the $30,000 needed by August 2, 2021 to create, produce, and print 20,000 activity books. Help us reach our goal by making an online donation on our secure site: https://secure.anedot.com/skilled-to-build-michigan-foundation/activitybook2021. If you contribute $200.00 or more, we will send you a Skilled to Build bag, and a copy of the activity book once they delivered.
Recruit a Veteran
One of our missions is recruiting veterans into the industry. We recently sponsored the HBAM Pro-Series, "They Served Our Country, Now They Are Ready to Join Your Team." Many thanks to Joe Saur, Employment Analyst for the Military and Veterans Affairs Agency for providing an informational session on the benefits of hiring a veteran. If you missed this session, you can watch it here: https://hbaofmichigan.com/#/education/hba-pro-series-recordings-and-materials.
Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation has two upcoming opportunities to connect YOU with veterans seeking employment. The first is connecting with 150+ Army Reservists coming off of deployment.
The second, is a virtual job fair with Fort Hood. This is a wonderful opportunity for YOUR COMPANY to connect with veterans. We are created a directory of companies who are willing to hire a veteran, and who have opportunities available.
If you have an interest in hiring a veteran, please take a moment to fill out this form (https://forms.gle/7RWrjtrETQQExhYi7) so you can be included in our directory.
If you have openings in your company, and would like to be included in our "I'm Hiring" directory, please take a moment to fill out this form, https://forms.gle/Gs9qwVWk9XKNSKeZ8.
Give A Returning Citizen a Second Chance
One of our missions is providing returning citizens a second chance by offering them opportunities in the industry. We recently sponsored the HBAM Pro-Series, "Returning Citizens are Trained and Ready to Work." Many thanks to Randy Powell, CBSP, Manager, Offender Employment and Opportunities Unit, MDOC, and Daniel Seal, Jobs Developer, Vocational Village, Richard A. Handlon Correction Facility, MDOC for providing an informational session on the benefits of hiring a returning citizen. If you missed this session, you can watch it here: https://hbaofmichigan.com/#/education/hba-pro-series-recordings-and-materials.
Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation receives resumes every two weeks of returning citizens who will have completed their training at the Vocational Village and will soon return to their communities.
WE HAVE FOUR RESUMES READY TO SEND YOU - If you are willing to give a returning citizen a second chance, please take a moment to fill out this form (https://forms.gle/fs6WgcsLdpjPCSZt7) and we will make sure you are on our distribution list to receive the resumes of those who will soon need a career. We will send you FOUR RESUMES AS SOON AS YOU SIGN UP.
Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation is Seeking Partners
Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation has a sound foundation in place to meet our mission of Cultivating, Educating, and Recruiting in the next six months. In order for us to meet those opportunities and be present, we need individuals and partners who believe in our mission to partner with us.
We have created partnership opportunities to help us meet, and exceed our goals. Each partnership provides various opportunities and recognition for your company. Partnering with us will allow us to have a strong presence during October is Careers in Construction Month, March is Reading Month, at the School Counselors Association of Michigan Conference, at the Construction Teachers Association Conference, at events where we can connect with Veterans and other opportunities presented.
Online donations are excepted at our secure site here: https://secure.anedot.com/skilled-to-build-michigan-foundation/2021partners. I am happy to discuss any, and all, opportunities with you.
